Bearpen and Vly
December 10 @ 8:00 am – 5:00 pm
This moderately paced and relatively straight forward hike net two of the Catskill 3500 summits. Although a relatively easy hike, we will cover 2300 total feet of elevation gain over the course of the 7-mile hike. The summit of Bearpen is also the top of a long abandoned ski area in a part of the Catskills known for catching plenty of snowfall. Depending on this year’s march of the seasons we may need snowshes for this hike. We will almost certainly need traction gear for ice (trail crampons or microspikes)
You must be in adequate shape for a hike of this length. Please wear winter hiking boots and carry light layers of clothing that can be added or subtracted depending on the temperatures. See our recommended gear list for day hikes for advice on what to bring: Recommended Gear
